Power Pi- A UPS for Raspberry Pi boards
A smart, low cost, and continuous power supply board for the Raspberry Pi single-board computer series.
Power Pi, as they call it is another unique and interesting Kickstarter featured product. Tony John, the developer of IoT has put this product out for public funding on kickstarter as a smart, low cost, and continuous power supply board for the Raspberry Pi single-board computer series.
"Power Pi is an intelligent and cost efficient uninterruptible power supply for a Raspberry Pi that can provide more than an hour of backup power and safely shutdown the Pi when battery is drained," John claims. "It protects the Pi from power outages and brownouts. It is based on BQ25895 power management IC and TPS61236P boost converter IC from Texas Instruments.
"This UPS can power a Raspberry Pi via the 40-pin GPIO header or any other device requiring a 5V up-to 3A power supply through its screw terminal output or the USB A port."
Power Pi is designed to be compatible with any model of the Raspberry Pi family having 40-pin GPIO header. The board draws input between 3.9-14V at 2-A and supplies 5V power up to 3A. The board basically is like a UPS for Raspberry Pi. This UPS utilizes I2C to interact with Raspberry Pi that grants power input and supervises the status of the battery. It can also shutdown automatically in case of low battery.
The power Pi can also be utilized on boards other than Raspberry Pi with the help of a pair of screw terminals and a USB A connector. Power pi runs on a Python based program capable of understanding the battery statistics like input power, charge status, battery voltage, and estimate run time remaining. Developer John claims it can run for up to an hour based on his tests on a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+. He used a Samsung INR18650-29E 2.9Ah battery for his test.
Note- The battery is not included with the Power Pi.
The asking price on Kickstarter is of €12 per unit (approx. INR. 990). For more, Visit below link.
