Beagleboard announced new Debian Image release cycle

The BeagleBoard.org Foundation has declared another thrice-yearly discharge cycle for Debian Linux OS images, perfect with its open-hardware single-board PC family — intended to invigorate the software before the Google Summer of Code and university years.

"In the past, image releases have been kinda random. So let’s try to get things on a better schedule," mentions BeagleBoard.org Foundation board member and owner Robert Nelson.

In the same way as other single-board PCs, the BeagleBoard family utilizes pre-developed Operating system images with changes not regularly discovered upstream. The new schedule would see Debian Linux images worked for launch three times each year, principally so that Google Summer of Code members (students) who collaborated with mentors from the open source software and hardware industry to work on programming ventures — and those taking a shot at BeagleBoard equipment in the scholarly community will have a new crisp software. A mid-December release, in the interim, would sit between the two.

Testing works of the most recent Debian images can be found on eLinux.org now, for the BeagleBone, PocketBeagle, BeagleBoard-X15, and BeagleBone AI boards.
